From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
