It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to hold a record if never given the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a challenging time because I feel like my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your competitive nature kick in and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was underway.

"A chance to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was dismissed her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we know we can succeed."

Those words will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have postponed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
